Take steps to win a book store gift certificate with UWalk

UW News

Transportation Services is giving UW employees an incentive to walk — the chance to win a gift certificate from the University Book Store.

For some time now, the department has had a program called UWalk, for which anyone interested can sign up. Essentially, you become a member and then log your walks online. There are four groups: the Commute Group, the Health Group, the Lunch and Social Group and the Meetings, Classes and Errands Group. Walkers can join as many of the groups as they like.

Starting in fall quarter, UWalk will be awarding a $50 gift card (generously donated by the University Book Store) to one lucky winner from each of the four groups. The first drawing will be held at the end of fall quarter with another drawing at the end of each quarter after that. It’s simple to win. Walkers just need to log their trips, steps, and minutes as usual but step lively to make sure they reach the UWalk goals for each of the walking groups they belong to:

  • Commute Group: make an average of six one-way trips per week each quarter.
  • Health Group: make an average of 5,260 steps per week each quarter.
  • Lunch and Social Group: spend an average of 65 minutes walking per week each quarter.
  • Meetings, Classes and Errands Group: spend an average of 55 minutes walking per week each quarter.

Each goal achieved means one automatic entry into the quarterly drawing. The more UWalk groups a person belongs to and the more goals he or she reaches, the more entries earned. At the end of each quarter, the four lucky winners will be featured on the UWalk website.
