Welcoming a new academic year with bolstered hazing prevention efforts

As students begin a new year at the University of Washington, they enter an institution with abundant opportunities for connection and an increasing culture of support for hazing prevention efforts. To support students in building community in ways that support, uplift, and empower them, the Hazing Prevention and Response Program is making a number of engagement and awareness opportunities available, including:

  • Revamped workshops for student groups and academic departments
  • Comprehensive resource guides, including a new, robust Hazing Prevention Toolkit
  • A new social media account through which informative content will be shared
  • An updated campus-wide hazing prevention training
  • And plans for on-campus tabling and collaboration with university departments and student groups on events throughout the year

These efforts are guided by extensive research on the latest research on hazing, examination of trends at UW and areas of growth from previous years, and the Hazing Prevention and Response Program’s new Hazing Prevention Model – which lays out a comprehensive, tiered approach to prevention.

In the coming year, the Hazing Prevention and Response Program aims to partner with  students and encourage all members of the university community to join in fostering a welcoming and safe environment.
