JULY 2015
While we embrace summer in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, our campaign continues to progress with critical work being done on multiple fronts.
We are delighted to celebrate the conclusion of the second most successful fundraising year in the University’s history. Add to this that the critical work of planning for an engaging and “deeply UW” campaign public launch is well under way and it becomes abundantly clear — together, we will accomplish great things.

Preparing for Launch
The transition from the nucleus to the public phase of the campaign — the moment of our public campaign “launch” — offers a boundless opportunity to demonstrate the UW’s achievements and aspirations, reinforce the brand and celebrate contributions to-date.
With Phase 1 of public campaign launch planning (gathering information/input — described in the last month’s Campaign Update) concluding in the next month, we will formally embark on Phase 2 (defining scope and prioritizing goals) this fall. We will be partnering with Hornall Anderson to define how the UW’s strategic brand will evolve to include a focus on campaign messaging.
This phase of the planning process will be characterized by robust collaboration across the UW as we seek to deepen connections between the UW and the greater community — most broadly defined — and enhance partnerships to advance knowledge and improve lives.
We have currently received more than $2.2 billion toward our campaign working goal of $4 billion.
GIX: A partnership that is powering innovation — here and around the world
In pursuit of solutions to some of the biggest global challenges, the UW and Tsinghua University — two of the world’s leading research universities — are partnering to create the Global Innovation Exchange (GIX), an institute dedicated to educating the next generation of innovators.
Thanks to $40 million in foundational support from Microsoft, GIX will bring together students, faculty, professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world to collaborate on real-world technology and design projects. Based in a new facility in the Seattle area, this is the first time a Chinese research university has established a physical presence in the United States.
