SEPTEMBER 2015
September at the UW is full of anxious anticipation. Who will start at quarterback? Will we play well on Saturday? Are our campuses ready for students to arrive? The answers are Browning, yes, and yes. Hard work always pays off, and anticipation yields to excitement.
As we prepare to welcome the newest Huskies, we are also preparing for the public launch of the campaign. This month we’re excited to share updates about the launch timeline and upcoming volunteer orientations that will ensure campaign volunteers have the information and tools they need.
Whatever your role, we offer our enduring encouragement for your fine work.

Preparing to Launch
We will publicly launch the campaign in just over a year. At the Campaign Volunteer Leadership Summit and other discussion sessions throughout spring and summer, we received great feedback to help determine ideal timing for the launch. We heard that we should launch when our campuses are alive and vibrant, particularly when students are in school. We were also cautioned to be thoughtful about the timing of the 2016 general election and to avoid the winter holidays.
Based on this valuable feedback, we are aiming to celebrate the public launch of our campaign in October 2016—hopefully during Husky Homecoming. To fully maximize our opportunities to celebrate the campaign with all of our audiences, we’ll be moving the 2016 gala to October as part of the launch weekend.
Stay tuned…we’ll be sharing much more information about the launch as it becomes available.
Preparing to Hit the Ground Running
A campaign of this magnitude demands a well-oriented force of dedicated volunteers ready to hit the ground running on the UW’s behalf. Based on recommendations from the Campaign Volunteer Leadership Summit, we are pleased to share the following comprehensive onboarding opportunities for volunteers. Topics will include:
- Nuts and bolts of the campaign, UW Advancement and culture of philanthropy at the UW
- The UW vision and how to share it
The two sessions are open to campaign chairs and committee members from any school, college or campus:
- Fall: Tuesday, November 10, 2015; 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.
- Spring: Wednesday, March 9, 2016; noon – 2 p.m.

Recognizing UW’s Newest Benefactors, Laureates, Presidential Laureates and 2015 GVSA Recipients
On September 11, we celebrated the tremendous impact of the University’s most steadfast supporters and recognized new Benefactors, Laureates and Presidential Laureates at the 14th Annual Recognition Gala. The evening also honored Jerry and Lyn Grinstein with the 2015 Gates Volunteer Service Award. The Grinsteins’ service to the University spans three campaigns and countless hours of commitment. As Lyn loves to say, they truly get to touch the magic every day.
Visit the Gala website to see photos and videos from the event.
We have currently received more than $2.3 billion toward our campaign working goal of $4 billion.
