OCTOBER–NOVEMBER 2015

One year from the public launch of the campaign, we find ourselves at once reveling in good fortune — an outstanding president, inspiring vision, and impressive campaign progress — and taking stock of the work required in the year ahead. Like the University, the campaign is in great shape.

As we head into this last year before our public launch with strong momentum, it is gratifying to see our work from the planning and nucleus phases come together. We are confident that our work in this remaining year before the public launch will truly poise the campaign for success.

We thank each of you for your contributions in helping us reach this point — and for your continued partnership as we prepare to launch this historic campaign.

Onward,

Nucleus Phase Update — The Year Before Public Launch

This month’s Campaign Update provides an at-a-glance update on campaign work across four key areas of preparation. Stay tuned over the next few months for in-depth updates in each of these areas.

Vision & Priorities

Campaign vision & priorities include the compelling articulation of the significant problems we will solve, and the opportunities through which we will solve them.

  • Throughout the remainder of the nucleus phase, campaign working goals are undergoing continual analysis and refinement. Dollar goals will be confirmed in advance of the public launch.

Volunteers

Campaign volunteers are those who partner with our academic leadership to advance campaign vision and help champion the UW’s strengths and impact.

  • The campaign volunteer structure began with the announcement of the Campaign General Chairs and Honorary Chairs in January 2015. Since then, we have nearly completed campaign volunteer leadership recruitment across academic units. Campaign committee recruitment is currently in full swing throughout the institution.

Donors & Supporters

Donors & supporters are the visionaries whose support is propelling the UW in the pursuit of a better world.

  • The nucleus phase is a time of lead gift conversations. Continuing our work of the past year, we are sharing our vision with the University’s closest friends and supporters and seeing wonderful intersection with their philanthropic passions. The gifts described in the Campaign Highlights section below are just a few examples of the generous commitments being received throughout the institution.

Marketing & Communications

Campaign marketing & communications encompasses the UW’s integrated brand strategy, which is designed and deployed to instill passion among stakeholders and elevate the University’s reputation.

  • The Be Boundless brand was launched last fall with a focus on prospective students and their influencers. In conjunction with the public launch of the campaign, we will be expanding our messaging and communication to focus on donors and supporters. We are engaged in work this year to identify and articulate the ideas within the Be Boundless brand that will engage and inspire this audience.
  • Public launch planning is gaining momentum around two key goals:
  1. Acknowledge and thank the supporters and leaders who have driven campaign success to date.
  2. Invite the UW community — most broadly defined — to join this ambitious drive toward our vision.

Recognizing UW’s Newest Benefactors, Laureates, Presidential Laureates and 2015 GVSA Recipients

On September 11, we celebrated the tremendous impact of the University’s most steadfast supporters and recognized new Benefactors, Laureates and Presidential Laureates at the 14th Annual Recognition Gala. The evening also honored Jerry and Lyn Grinstein with the 2015 Gates Volunteer Service Award. The Grinsteins’ service to the University spans three campaigns and countless hours of commitment. As Lyn loves to say, they truly get to touch the magic every day.

Visit the Gala website to see photos and videos from the event.
