AUGUST 2015
As we enjoy the remainder of this sunny summer, work on the campaign is rounding a significant corner. Recruiting of campaign volunteer leadership is nearly completed campus-wide and campaign committee recruitment has begun. We welcome what is clearly the most dedicated consortium of enthusiastic volunteers in higher education, and look forward to their partnership and leadership throughout the campaign.
Together we will,
Campaign General Chairs
Preparing for Excellence
Few elements of campaign preparation have the potential to catalyze momentum as effectively as a well-oriented force of dedicated volunteers. Feedback from the Campaign Volunteer Leadership Summit in April echoed this notion—volunteers asked the University to provide comprehensive onboarding opportunities, and to prepare them to articulate, on the UW’s behalf, a concise case for support for every unit. We are happy to share the following updates:
Campaign Volunteer Onboarding Sessions
New campaign chairs and campaign committee members are invited to choose to attend one of two upcoming onboarding sessions:
- Fall: Tuesday, November 10, 2015; 8:30–10:30 a.m.
- Spring: Wednesday, March 9, 2016; noon–2 p.m.
Topics will include big picture and UW Advancement orientation, as well as campaign catalysts: vision, priorities, and campaign marketing and communications.
Unit Campaign Messaging
We all appreciate the UW’s profound impact on communities near and far and share a vision for what — through this historic infusion of private support — the UW will become. But what about the details? Unit campaign messaging, grounded in campaign visioning exercises that began in 2014, is evolving into fine-tuned cases for support.
Over the next several months, unit campaign messaging will continue to develop into frameworks and language that will enable all of us — volunteers, faculty and staff alike — to consistently share exciting campaign opportunities and promises from across the UW.
We have currently received more than $2.2 billion toward our campaign working goal of $4 billion.
NFL helps UW Medicine launch sports-safety institute
UW Medicine has announced plans to create a Sports Health and Safety Institute, focused on the research, education, prevention and treatment of sports-related concussions. The institute also will study how to make sports and activities safer. The National Football League (NFL) is providing foundational funding of $2.5 million. The institute will be led by Drs. Richard Ellenbogen, chair of UW Medicine’s Department of Neurological Surgery, and Stanley Herring, medical director of Spine, Sports and Orthopedic Health.
