Monthly UW Web Accessibility and Usability Meetup

These monthly meetups, formerly known as “Explore with Hadi”, provide an opportunity for UW web developers and designers to discuss accessibility and usability issues in a relaxed, casual setting, and provide friendly feedback on each others’ web projects. We encourage you to bring your accessibility questions or just join us to see what others are working on. Meetings are hosted by Hadi Rangin, a web accessibility specialist with UW-IT Accessible Technology Services. Hadi has a Master’s degree in computer science and is a screen reader user himself, so these meetings are great opportunities to experience how your website might be experienced by someone using assistive technology.

Meetings are typically held on the 2nd Thursday of each month, 10:00am – 11:00am. Please contact Hadi Rangin at hadir@uw.edu if you’d like to attend, and we’ll send you the meeting URL.

Accessible Technology Webinar Series

On the 2nd Wednesday of each month, 1:00pm – 2:00pm, we host a webinar on a popular topic related to IT accessibility. Here’s the schedule of upcoming topics in the series:

  • Apr 12: Testing with Screen Readers
  • May 10: Accessible Documents
  • Jun 7: Accessibility in Procurement

Video recordings and links to resources are available on the Webinar Series Archives page.

Next webinar:

The next webinar in the Accessible Technology Webinar Series, Testing with Screen Readers, is Wednesday, April 12th at 1:00pm. Hadi Rangin of the IT Accessibility Team will provide an overview of the major screen reading programs in the market. He will cover basic navigation commands, how to use a screen reader to interact with an application, and how to use a screen reader as a companion tool to verify accessibility issues.

Webinars are free but require registration. Please register for the April 12 webinar and we’ll send the Zoom link prior to the event.

IT Accessibility Liaisons meetings

IT Accessibility Liaisons are people who represent their work unit, large or small, in a tri-campus movement to promote the procurement, development, and use of IT that is accessible to everyone. The growing network of Liaisons meets three times per year for a half-day training, typically in February, May, and November. Details about the next meeting will be posted here once they’re finalized. For more information on becoming a Liaison, see the IT Accessibility Liaisons page.
