Get involved

Nearly everyone at the University of Washington contributes to our digital community. If you create documents in Word, PowerPoint, or PDF; produce videos; design or contribute content to websites, or choose which technology tools to buy; you play a role in creating our online presence.  Therefore, you also play a role in ensuring our technology landscape is accessible to all users, including students, staff, faculty, and visitors with disabilities.

We encourage you to get involved in the UW IT accessibility community. Together, we can break down barriers and build a university that is truly accessible and welcoming to everyone. Following are a few ways to get connected.

IT Accessibility Liaisons

IT Accessibility Liaisons are people who represent their work unit, large or small, in a tri-campus movement to promote the procurement, development, and use of IT that is accessible to everyone. The growing network of Liaisons meets three times per year for a half-day training, typically in February, May, and November. Details about the next meeting will be posted here once they’re finalized. For more information on becoming a Liaison, see the IT Accessibility Liaisons page.

Events

The University of Washington offers a wide variety of events related to technology accessibility, including ongoing events such as Accessible Technology Office Hours, Monthly Web Accessibility & Usability Meetup, and Accessible Technology Webinar Series; as well as special events, presentations, and trainings throughout the year.  Visit our Events page for current upcoming events.

Take the IT Accessibility Challenge!

The IT Accessibility Challenge is based on 20 simple actions that you can take to get started with making your IT resources more accessible. Participants can signup either as an individual or department, and can pledge to work on any number of tasks.  By taking the challenge, participants get a certificate, their name features on the Challenge website, and access to an interactive (and fully accessible) online BINGO game. For more information and to get started, visit our IT Accessibility Challenge page.

AccessibleWeb@U

AccessibleWeb@U is a community of UW web designers, developers, and other interested people who discuss and share ideas on accessible web design through their online discussion list.
