MADAME SECRETARY: Anita Ramasastry, D. Wayne & Anne Gittinger Professor in the School of Law, has been elected to serve a two-year term as secretary of the Uniform Law Commission. She was elected at the 120th Annual Meeting of the Uniform Law Commission which recently concluded in Vail, Colo.
Founded in 1892, the commission comprises more than 350 practicing attorneys, judges, law professors, legislators and other state officials — all lawyers — appointed by every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to draft and promote enactment of uniform laws that are designed to solve problems common to all the states. Commissioners donate their time as a pro bono public service.
ZIPCAR AWARD: Carla Archambault, general manager of Seattle Zipcar, presented the UW with its “Wheels of Change” award in a small ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the University Transportation Center. The award honors organizations that take significant actions to lessen their environmental impact, actively promote alternative transportation and give back to the community. The UW is one of three Zipcar accounts to receive the award this year.

EMERGING LEADER: Diversity MBA Magazine has named Jessica Lundquist, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, one of its “Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Executive & Emerging Leaders.” According to press notes, the leaders were selected “based on their position within a publicly or privately held company, a successful entrepreneurial company or not-for-profit organization, and for their scope of responsibility, community service work and education achieved.”
The honorees will be featured in Diversity MBA Magazine’s summer 2011 issue and will be honored at the magazine’s Awards Gala, held Sept. 13 and 14 in Chicago.
