February 2011 | Return to issue home
From the UWAA President
As the new year continues to unfold, I am even more excited about the opportunities we have to celebrate alumni and friends in 2011. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the University of Washington. Founded in 1861, the UW has been a leader in higher education for generations. As a proud Husky and president of the UW Alumni Association, I don't have to tell you that it's the service of volunteers like you that helps to make this institution strong. The sesquicentennial will officially begin at the start of the 2011-12 academic year. The yearlong remembrance will give us a chance to tell UW stories and to celebrate the contributions of Huskies of all stripes, those well-known and those less-well-known. And, of course, there will be activities and events that will benefit greatly from your helping hands. I hope you're game! September is a long way off. In the meantime, let's focus on thoughts of spring and Husky Happy Hours and other ways you strengthen your connections to each other and the University we treasure. Thank you. Sincerely,
