| Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service The University of Washington continues to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his vision for social justice, through a commitment to service and community engagement. In January 2011, there will be several ways to get involved:
The Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center will host a Service Opportunities Fair on Jan. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Mary Gates Hall Commons. The fair is an opportunity for UW students, staff, faculty and alumni to connect with community partners and learn about opportunities to serve on the King holiday and beyond. Get more information.
On the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, the UW Jumpstart Program will host a Preschool Curriculum Materials Party.  From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, join with other UW community members on campus to label books, organize supplies and compile curriculum materials for Head Start classrooms. Contact Mary McNair to sign up.
For the past five years, the Carlson Leadership & Public Service Center, together with the United Way of King County, has coordinated a number of service projects for the King holiday. This year, United Way of King County is coordinating service projects in conjunction with community-based organizations around the city. Get more information, find a project and sign up. Visit the Carlson Center website for updated information; you can also e-mail us at mlkjr@uw.edu.  We hope you will join us in service!
