Meet Local Volunteer Venus de la Cruz

Though Venus de la Cruz, ‘95, considered offers from UC San Diego and Santa Clara University, the Bothell, Wash., native ultimately chose UW because of its great reputation and its proximity to her family. In short, she was meant to become a Husky!

During her years at UW, participated in a number of campus events, such as the Hawaiian luau featuring Keali’I Reichel, and she played intramural volleyball. In fact, her team was champion in 1991. After graduating in 1995 with a B.S. in zoology, Venus became a volunteer to give back to her alma mater and connect with other Huskies.

Venus has volunteered at Finals Bites, Quad Flicks and Commencement and has showed the UWAA that she is a rock star! Additionally, she's also volunteered her time at other organizations such as Seattle Green Festival, PGA Championship, World Golf Championship and Big Brothers Big Sisters for 6 years!

Outside of volunteering, Venus enjoys traveling and has even won third place in an 8K race in the Phillippines! She enjoys movies and other UW alumni events such as UW vs University of Hawaii in December 2007 and the UW alumni SoCal Event last July.
