Speaker bios:

Ebonee Anderson, UW Human Resources, Total Talent Management

Ebonee Anderson is the DEI Recruiting Consultant with the UWHR- Total Talent Management. In her current role she is charged with the responsibility of helping with the design, development, and implementation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) focused recruiting and sourcing strategies and programs. She has already proven herself to be integral to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion work across the University and sits on the UW Diversity Council.

Ebonee believes effective diversity recruiting relies on minimizing barriers in hiring and ensuring an inclusive and equitable selection process.  Her strategies include developing candidate screening tools, building partnerships, and using her background in full-cycle recruiting as a lens for increasing diversity and inclusion to not only attract and hire diverse talent but also to retain, develop, engage and advance employees.

Her passion for social justice and diversity in the hiring process comes from the experience she gained early in her career providing workplace readiness training, outreach, and employer engagement for systemically underserved and marginalized populations. Ebonee is an advocate for using inclusive hiring practices to increase diversity and believes in coaching hiring managers on how to hire with a D.E.I lens. Ebonee has sat on many DEI focused panels and has received rave reviews for her Inclusive Hiring Workshops and Presentations. Her knowledge and work in the DEI space have been described as “absolutely eye-opening.” Her matter of fact, relatable style, and practical approach have positioned her as a sought-after presenter and go-to resource.

 

Mariasol Hill, Operations Program Manager, Global Intern Program, Microsoft

Mariasol is the Operations Program Manager of Microsoft’s Intern Program. She has worked at Microsoft since October and has been working with students in higher education for nearly 10 years prior to her role at Microsoft. In her role at Microsoft, she is focused on the operational components of the Intern Program as well as the strategic management of events and the incorporation of practices that make the program more inclusive. She is passionate about helping students connect their interests and passions to their future careers and allowing them to explore the connection of their passions outside of work to roles at Microsoft. Mariasol moved to Seattle 7 years ago and when not at work, enjoys time with her family especially after the recent addition of a baby boy.

 

 

Jamilah WIlliams, Board Chair, Sustainable Seattle

As the Board Chair of Sustainable Seattle, I have seen in my short time, the ability for an organization to go from a vision to reality. Sustainable Seattle has been able to live it’s values of equity and justice through budgetary decisions, hiring decisions, and board recruitment. Having been at a large non-profit as a staff member, I’ve been able to see what’s possible when equity and inclusion come from the top down, but are truly driven by work on the ground.

 

 

 

 

Annette Anderson, Office of Diversity and Equity, UW Bothell

Annette develops academic support programs for students. An additional focus is enhancing STEM programs for women and underrepresented students on the Bothell campus.   She serves as advisor to Bothell Women in Sciences and Engineering (BWiSE), and the Black Student Union (BSU).   Research interests include culturally relevant pedagogy in K-20, and the impact of education policy on African Americans.  Annette is the immediate past president of UW Professional Staff Organization (PSO).

Committed to creating the “Beloved Community” regional stewardship and service includes the Black Education Strategy Roundtable (BESR), improving educational outcomes for African American students in Washington State; Young Women Empowered  (Y-WE) cultivating the power of diverse young women to be creative leaders and courageous change makers; and iUrban Teen: providing STEM education and opportunities for underrepresented teens. Community building has also been realized through 12 years of service to Byrd Barr Place, (formerly CAMP), providing services and advocacy to end poverty and advance agency; and 20 years of service to MLK Seattle Celebration Committee.

She has degrees in Political Science from UPENN and moved to the west coast in 1995 to attend law school.  Previous regional positions held are Chief of Staff, Washington State Democrats, and CFO, Cross Cultural Health Care Program.

Honors include Distinguished Service Award for Community Service -2019, UWMS; Women in Leadership Award, UWB, AAUW of Washington State Honoree -2014, and Making the Difference Service Award, Centerstone CSO. Her overarching passion is to advance enthusiasm for learning and cultivate opportunities for African American and underrepresented students to thrive academically.
