UW President Ana Mari Cauce

President Ana Mari Cauce hosted a virtual town hall on May 12 for the UW community of students, families, faculty and staff to discuss the safe return to in-person learning in the fall.

President Cauce was joined by Provost Mark Richards, Vice President for Student Life Denzil Suite, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs Ed Taylor, Dean of the School of Public Health Hilary Godwin, and Dean of the Graduate School Joy Williamson-Lott. They addressed questions about campus safety measures; vaccines; in-person teaching, learning and working; housing; research; and a return to on-campus activities as pandemic restrictions lift.

As our city and nation seek to make reforms that improve public safety for ALL people, the University of Washington is undertaking changes to Seattle campus safety protocols, including changes to the UW Police Department and developing non-police responses to welfare checks and campus safety concerns. The UW is committed to transparency and collaboration in working toward a campus environment in which everyone can feel safe and welcome.

As Washington state continues its phased reopening, the University of Washington recognizes that faculty, staff, students and their families have many questions about how the pandemic will affect autumn quarter, when many students, including a new incoming class, will be returning to campus. President Ana Mari Cauce hosted a virtual town hall on Friday, July 10, with a panel of UW leaders to address these questions and offer a preview of what back-to-school will mean for the UW community.
