Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month and honoring cultural heritage for a more equitable future

This month, as we celebrate National Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month, our community is coming together to honor the outstanding and wide-ranging impact that our Asian American and Native Hawai’ian and Pacific Islander students, faculty, staff and alumni contribute to our University and the public we serve.

Mourning Tyre Nichols and the broken system that took his life

Tyre Nichols’ name joins the terrible roster of people who have been victimized by our grievously broken system. While it can never bring these stolen lives back, we must rededicate ourselves to the work of preventing police violence against the people they are sworn to protect, and to the broader mission of building a culture that treasures Black lives.

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month and the deep roots of Indigenous people and culture at the UW

Indigenous voices and accomplishments are a vibrant part of our academic community, and this month, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the many opportunities to explore and celebrate the work of some of the UW’s most accomplished Indigenous faculty, staff, students, alumni and neighbors.

Celebrating the determination and diverse pathways of UW transfer students

Across our three campuses, we are committed to being welcoming, accessible communities in which our many transfer students can thrive throughout their academic journeys and during Transfer Student Celebration Week, we have the chance to both celebrate our transfer students and examine how we can meet their distinctive needs even more effectively.
