Explore the historic home of “The Boys in the Boat.” Come to the spot once known as stəx̌ʷugʷił” (stukh-ug-weelth) or “carry a canoe” — a place of gathering and portage for the Indigenous Lakes Duwamish people of this land. The building here was a WWI Navy seaplane hangar and then the humble training grounds for Washington Rowing and the workshop of legendary boatmaker George Pocock. The UW and generous community leaders have embarked on a capital campaign to restore this National Register building and Seattle landmark to be woven into our campus traditions as an inviting place of history and inspiration for the community.
