Guest Artist Recital: Bassoonist Pascal Gallois, Oct. 29

Renowned French bassoonist Pascal Gallois — a member of the famed Paris-based Ensemble Intercontemporain — will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in Brechemin Auditorium.


Gallois is a specialist in music after 1945 and one of the most renowned and active bassoonists of the day. He performed world premieres or French first performances of numerous pivotal contemporary bassoon works, among them Karlheinz Stockhausen’s In Freundschaft and Luciano Berio’s Sequenza XII, both of which he will perform in his UW concert. He is also the author of an instructional book for composers, The Technique of Bassoon Playing.


Gallois will perform Pilinsky Janos: Gérard De Nerval and In memoriam Gyorgy Kroo by Gyorgy Kurtag; In Freundschaft by Karlheinz Stockhausen; Torsion for bassoon and CD by Olga Neuwirth; Sen VII by Toshio Hosokawa; and Sequenza XII for solo bassoon by Luciano Berio.
