UW ranked 23rd in the world, fourth among American publics in new study

The University of Washington was ranked 23rd best university in the world, according to The Times Higher Education Rankings.

Universities were ranked on 13 elements, divided into five categories:


  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Citations
  • Industry income
  • International mix

The Times’ (of London) methodology has been totally reworked from previous years. It was developed in partnership with Thomson Reuters, with consultation from more than 50 leaders in higher education.

Harvard was ranked #1; 15 of the top 20 universities are from the United States. The University of California, Berkeley, was the top public American university (8). The UW was the fourth ranked American public university.
