Organist Ronald Ebrecht to perform at UW March 2

Celebrating his 20th year as university organist at Wesleyan University, Ronald Ebrecht will perform on the organ at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the Walker-Ames room of Kane Hall. The concert is part of the Littlefield Organ Series.

Ebrecht has appeared to critical acclaim in major music centers across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Spoleto USA and prestigious international venues and festivals.

Ebrecht’s UW appearance, sponsored by the School of Music and KING-FM, is the capstone of Young Organ Virtuosi, a biennial festival founded by Ebrecht at Wesleyan University in 1990 to sponsor promising artists in concert. The festival is presented this year in Seattle, from Feb. 29 to March 2, sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, the UW School of Music and Plymouth Congregational Church.

In his UW concert, Ebrecht will perform works by Bach, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn, and a suite of rarely heard pieces by African-American composers Edmund Jenkins, Florence Price and William Grant Still. Tickets are $15, or $10 for students and seniors, cash or check at the door. For more information, call 206-543-4880 or visit online at www.music.washingto.edu.

Ebrecht also will hold a public master class on the French composer Maurice DuruflĂ© with students of UW organ instructor Carole Terry, at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Plymouth Congregational Church. And he will appear at the performance by Young Organists Virtuosi, Brent Stamey and Noah Wynne-Morton at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, also at Plymouth Congregational Church.
