UW shines on Comcast

If you’re a fan of CNN Headline News, you may have seen some familiar faces popping up on the screen. Several Health Sciences deans, as well as the executive director of UW Medical Center and the chief operating officer of Harborview Medical Center, have been guests on Comcast’s Local Edition over the past couple of months.

Local Edition is a four-minute, professionally produced interview segment that is seen at 24 minutes and 54 minutes past the hour on the Comcast cable system in the Puget Sound area.

Hosted by reporter Susan West, each interview airs about 35 times to a potential audience of about 1 million homes.

Kathleen Sellick, UWMC executive director, says the experience was entirely positive.

“It’s a great way to get health issues out before the public. The audience for Headline News is interested in hearing this type of information, so it is a great venue for sharing,” Sellick said.

Dean Martha Somerman of the School of Dentistry has also taped a segment. as have Dean Nancy Woods of the School of Nursing, Dean Sid Nelson of the School of Pharmacy, Dean Pat Wahl of the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, and Harborview COO Johnese Spisso.
