Joanne Suffis named interim VP in Human Resources
Joanne Suffis, executive director of HR operations for Upper Campus, Bothell and Tacoma, has been named Interim Vice President for HR as of July 1. Former Vice President Patti Carson is leaving the position to return to the private sector with Kaiser Permanente of Southern California, based in Pasadena.
Suffis began her career as a National Labor Relations Board mediator, and also worked in HR at General Electric, including NBC, where she was director of HR as well as lead negotiator on local contracts. She was most recently head of HR at Old Navy, supporting both field and headquarters organizations.
“Joanne is committed to carrying on the positive directions for HR at the UW which have been set in motion by Patti, including the emerging Leadership, Community and Values Initiative,” said Executive Vice President Weldon Ihrig. “Patti’s departure is a significant loss for all of us, but we have greatly benefited from her leadership over the past almost two years.”
