Digging it up for the IMA

It may look like an archaeological dig, but it’s actually the construction site for the addition to the IMA. Because the ground in the area was formerly a landfill, it would not be stable enough to support a building without the steel pilings that can be seen sticking out of the ground in several locations in this photo. Workers are currently six months into the project, which is scheduled for completion in summer, 2003. Later this month the IMA will temporarily close its lounge and meeting room and relocate its vending area so that remodeling can begin inside the existing building.
