Patient Rights

The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides individuals with a legal, enforceable right to see and receive copies, upon request, of the information in their medical and other health records maintained by their healthcare providers and health plans. This right is known as the HIPAA Right of Access.

This Patient Rights document [PDF] summarizes the process of patient rights for access across the Healthcare Compliance Group (HCCG). Below are the procedures in place to comply with HIPAA:

  • Notice of Privacy Practices.
  • Requests for Additional Privacy Protections for PHI.
  • Patient Requests to Access PHI.
  • Patient Rights to Request an Amendment to PHI.
  • Patient Rights to an Accounting of Disclosures of PHI.
  • Patient Rights to File a Complaint
