Eligibility

Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements below may participate in Commencement at Husky Stadium, on June 13, 2026.

Bachelor Candidates

Students who earned a degree in Summer 2025, Autumn 2025, or Winter 2026, or have applied to graduate with a departmental advisor for Spring 2026 or Summer 2026 are eligible. Summer quarter grads may participate in Commencement but their names appear in the following year’s program (see below).

Important Note: In rare cases there are graduates who are not eligible to participate in Commencement (see eligibility criteria here) but have permission to participate in their school, college, or departmental ceremony.  Those graduates must also submit an application to graduate in order to order a cap & gown on the Registration/Order Form. (See the Graduation Checklist.) Applications can be submitted by a departmental advisor up to three quarters before the student plans to graduate Important Note:  The Office of the Registrar reminds us that the student does need to approve the application. The adviser submits it, the student approves it and only then does the application go to the registrar. Many applications get stuck because students fail to complete the approval step.

Once the application for graduation is submitted, approved by the student (students should consult with their departmental adviser) and received by the Office of Graduation and Academic Records (ugradoff@uw.edu), the student will then be able to complete the Commencement Registration/Order Form, which will be available on this website in early May.

Master’s and Doctoral Candidates

Graduates are eligible to participate if they

  • earned their degrees in Summer 2025, Autumn 2025, or Winter 2026,
  • submitted their master’s degree request or scheduled their final exam (doctoral) with the Graduate School for Spring 2026, or
  • have a reasonable expectation of graduating in Spring or Summer 2026. (Summer 2026 graduates only: Those who plan on participating in a graduation event should consult with their graduate program advisor (GPA) to make sure the degree information accurately reflects the degree they plan to earn.)

Professional Candidates

Candidates for J.D., M.D., D.D.S., and Pharm D. Degrees who earned degrees in Summer 2025, Autumn 2025, Winter 2026 or are candidates for Spring or Summer 2026 are eligible to participate.

Names Listed in Commencement Program Booklet

The Commencement Program is a digital booklet which lists the names of graduates from Summer 2025 through Spring 2026. Summer 2026 graduates’ names will be listed in the 2027 program. If you have not graduated or submitted your application to graduate, you must do the following by April 17, 2026 to be included in the program:

  • Bachelor’s – Meet with your departmental advisor and have a student approved application for graduation submitted to the Office of Graduation and Academic Records.
  • Master’s – Submit your online master’s degree request.
  • Doctoral – Schedule final exam.

This deadline does not affect your eligibility to participate in Commencement.  It only applies to whether or not your name will appear in this year’s Commencement program.

Note: Students will receive information via their UW.edu email with instructions about using a special web form to either

  1. Select a “Commencement Program Name,” if desired, or
  2. Request not to have your name printed in the Commencement Program.

Your record name on file with the University will be used in the program, unless you request not to be listed or provide a “Commencement Program Name” using the web form linked in the email.

Certain restrictions to Commencement Program Names apply:

  • A Commencement Program Name may not be used with an intent to impersonate someone else, to deceive, defraud, or misrepresent.
  • Hate speech and inappropriate or offensive language are forbidden.

Please watch your email for this information, and pay attention to any stated deadlines.
