The U District Livability Partnership is a three-year strategic initiative to encourage investment for a vibrant, walkable University District neighborhood. UW women’s softball legend Danielle Lawrie holds an official Proclamation from the Seattle City Council and Mayor honoring her contributions to the UW and the region and the example she has set for young women as student-athletes. Seattle City Council members Tim Burgess and Sally Clark were among those offering congratulations after a special ceremony in City Hall organized by UW Regional Relations.

The University of Washington is in support of WSDOT’s Preferred Alternative for the SR 520 project. The collaborative efforts among many agencies in the last few years as well as the past few months to refine the Preferred Alternative have resulted in a stronger project.

New SDOT Project Coming to Your Neighborhood!

In 2011, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will reconstruct 15^th Avenue NE between NE Pacific Street and NE 50^th Street, and resurface the roadway between NE 50th Street and NE 55th Street. The 15^th Avenue NE Reconstruction Project is anticipated to begin in January 2011 and is scheduled to be complete by October 2011.

The project will likely be conducted in three phases:

• Phase 1 (January – June): NE Pacific Street to NE 45th Street
• Phase 2 (June – September): NE 45th Street to NE 50th Street
• Phase 3 (September – October): NE 50th Street to NE 55th Street

The project is currently in the final design stage and will be advertised for competitive bids from contractors in September 2010. A more detailed construction schedule will be available in late 2010. Improvements to 15^th Avenue NE include upgrades to pedestrian mobility, sidewalk widening at bus zones, new electrical infrastructure for future transit improvements, and upgraded street lighting.
