Leading and learning from national Campus Compact institute

This summer, Rachel Vaughn, associate director of the Carlson Center, was invited to be a facilitator at the national Campus Compact institute, Diving Deep.

At the institute, participants “dove” deeper into the challenges and opportunities of community engagement work. As a facilitator, Vaughn helped design the institute, led a small group throughout it, and led the session “Inspiring and Developing Faculty for Long Term, Sustainable Community Engagement.”

“I found it extremely valuable to meet colleagues from across the nation, from a variety of types of higher education institutions,” said Vaughn, “and to hear their models, challenges, and successes in fully integrating civic engagement, including service-learning, into their institutional practices and mission. I also truly enjoyed sharing the models we employ at the University of Washington, and have followed up with many participants with additional information post-Institute.”
