UAA program reaches mentor milestone

Dream Project alumna and Americorps Retention Project member Janis Lee registered the 500th mentor in the Dream Project’s autumn quarter class. That’s right—500 UW undergraduates have committed to giving back to their communities by helping high-schoolers navigate the college-admissions process.

Emily received a “Live the Dream” scholarship from the Dream Project this past spring. As she looked back at her high-school experience at the Academy of Citizenship & Empowerment (ACE), Emily reflected, “I don’t think I would have even applied to college or for scholarships without the help and motivation that I received over the last two years from Dream Project.” Now she’s a proud Husky…and an excited member of the Dream Team.

Seeing Emily sign up as the 500th mentor was even more exciting for Janis. She was Emily’s mentor at ACE, and now had the joy of giving Emily her official “Dream Team” T-shirt, which she’ll wear at high school visits each week as she helps students whose shoes she was in just a few months ago.

Be a part of the inspiring work of these students and alumni and meet one of the other 500 mentors or 1,000+ Dream Scholars. Join the Dream Project as a volunteer for Admissions Workshop Weekend on November 19 and 20 and help hundreds of local high school students craft competitive college application essays. This year’s event will be the biggest yet, with over 750 students expected to be in attendance! Sign up here.
