Unique lens into human rights in Kenya comes from Kenyan artists
Human rights in Kenya will be highlighted locally via an art show as a result of an African Studies seminar in Kenya. Erin Murphy, Honors alumna, and current graduate student participated in the seminar “Human Rights and Social Transformation in Kenya” in Nairobi, Kenya, last summer and is one of the students coordinating a show and sale of artwork by Kenyan artists.

Students share their talents at first Honors Open Mic
Dimming the lights, scrambling to find a seat and trying desperately not to drip hot coffee on anyone, on Thursday, December 3, UW Honors students settled into the upstairs room of U District institution Café Allegro to see what their peers had to offer.

UW is a top Fulbright-producing institution
The Fulbright Program recently announced the complete list of colleges and universities that produced the most 2009-2010 U.S. Fulbright Fellows. Among research institutions, the UW shares eleventh place with Cornell University and produced more Fulbright students than any other Global Challenge state university.

Volunteers needed for Dream Project’s Annual Admissions Workshop Weekend
Join the Dream Project on November 14 and 15 and help more than 300 local high school students craft competitive college application essays. Volunteer writing tutors are needed to work with students one-on-one. Students who attend the weekend often come in with nothing and leave having submitted a completed college application.

University of Washington Jumpstart hosting Read for the Record events
Join squeals of preschool delight, help prepare preschool children for school, and raise awareness about the importance of early literacy with UW Jumpstart’s fourth annual Read for the Record event. Read for the Record aims to break the world record of the largest shared reading experience by encouraging hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book on the same day.
