Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Our program is jointly administered by the University of Washington and UAW 4121, the union representing academic student employees and postdocs. Because of this unique setup, some questions frequently arise about how to schedule sessions. We’ve gathered the answers to several of them below.

EPIC FAQs

The contracts negotiated between the university and UAW2121 require that EPIC trainings be made available to ASEs and postdocs. The contracts do not require ASEs and postdocs to attend. As our program’s capacity is limited, attending a training should not be a prerequisite for beginning work or class.

Yes. Making EPIC trainings required at the department level is one of the best ways of ensuring high attendance. It also communicates that preventing harassment and creating an inclusive environment is a priority for the department. We can work with you to track registration and attendance.

No, unfortunately. The EPIC team has four ASE trainers, so we have limited capacity. If we are unable to deliver a training during the quarter in which it is requested, we will work with your department to schedule a training in future quarters.

We request a minimum of two weeks lead time, with additional time greatly appreciated. Having several weeks notice allows us to tailor our trainings to each department and work on increasing attendee turnout.

Our trainings are for academic student employees, both hourly and salaried, as well as postdocs. You can request a training with SafeCampus, which offers a version of the EPIC training for faculty and staff. If you are interested in a training for students who are not ASEs, consider reaching out to LiveWell.

Departments may choose to hold trainings remotely on Zoom or in-person on-campus. For in-person trainings, we ask departments to reserve the room for the training. For virtual trainings, EPIC will provide the Zoom link for the meeting. We may be able to accommodate hybrid trainings on a case-by-case basis.

No, we prioritize the confidentiality of training participants, so we do not record trainings. If you are not able to attend your department’s scheduled training, please reach out to us to discuss options for a make-up training at epicprogram@uw.edu.

We would love to receive your feedback on training content and delivery, and ways we can better reach academic workers. To give feedback on a specific training you attended, please use the EPIC evaluation form. For general suggestions or ideas, please contact epicprogram@uw.edu.
