Hans Rosling Center receives accolades for its unique design and project approach

Nighttime view of the Rosling Center's exteriorThe University of Washington’s Hans Rosling Center for Population Health has been recognized multiple times at the state and national level for its unique architectural design and success in cultivating a center that seeks to promote collaboration across disciplines to discuss and solve population health related issues.

The accolades awarded to the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health this year are a reflection of the way its design intentionally invites interdisciplinary collaboration. It will continue to grow in serving as a hub for programs, events and workspaces that promote healthy lifestyles, creativity and connections in the population health space. The building is also recognized for its commitment to sustainability through systems such as increased ventilation rates, reused rainwater for flushing and heat recovery from the West Campus Utility Plant.

Inspired by the UW Population Health Initiative, the building was designed by The Miller Hull Partnership under general contractor Lease Crutcher Lewis. A $210 million gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2016, combined with additional funding from the Washington Legislature and the university, led to the building of what has become the campus hub for population health since officially opening to the public in fall of 2021.
