Kavandi was awarded a doctorate in chemistry in 1990 for her work with pressure-sensitive coatings to aid in studying air pressure on surfaces such as airplane wings. One of the largest gatherings of scientists from around the world comes to Seattle next week when the American Association for the Advancement of Science stages its annual meeting. Offering a program of 130 symposia, topical lectures and seminars, the meeting includes nearly 90 UW Washington faculty and students as lecturers, symposium organizers and speakers. AAAS runs from Feb. 12 through Feb.16 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.

The UW Medicine Regional Heart Center is the primary sponsor for the “Go Red for Women” luncheon and seminars planned by the American Heart Association as part of a national campaign to educate women about their risks for heart disease and related conditions.
Exhibitors will be signing up in February to reserve space along the tour route for Health Sciences Open House 2004, the Health Sciences Center’s largest outreach event, which is generally held every two years.
