“Ways of Knowing” Episode 2: Paratext
The podcast "Ways of Knowing” highlights how studies of the humanities at the University of Washington’s College of Arts & Sciences can reflect everyday life. In the second episode of Season 2, Richard Watts, an associate professor of French, explains how everything we read comes with accompanying discourse, a "paratext." Decisions have already been made about how readers should think and feel about a book, Watts says, and the paratext urges readers to accept those interpretations.
