Biochemist David Baker receives Nobel Prize
Computational biologist David Baker, professor of biochemistry at the University of Washington School of Medicine and director of the UW Medicine Institute for Protein Design, has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for computational protein design. He shares the Nobel Prize with Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper of DeepMind, who were honored for protein structure prediction.

The UW's RIDE program trains dentists to treat patients from rural and underserved communities. More than 80% of graduates go on to work in dental offices in small towns and communities. RIDE students study dentistry in Spokane and Seattle, as well as hands-on training in clinics in rural towns across Washington.
