Watershed dotted with streams of different temperatures in Alaska
The Wood River basin, slightly bigger than the state of Rhode Island, is dotted with streams with different average temperatures – in Fahrenheit, 40 to 55 degrees – meaning salmon return to spawn at different times. Stream are close enough that animals like brown bears can have salmon for most of the summer by moving between streams.
