The Arboretum Foundation and the UW Botanic Gardens Education Department will once again host their popular annual Mother’s Day event at the Arboretum, on Sunday, May 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Families can have a free photo taken on Azalea Way, near the Graham Visitors Center. And both kids and adults can enjoy fun, plant-themed activities including:


  • a self-guided family hike with interactive cues;
  • two 30-minute guided tours of Azalea Way, departing 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. from the visitors center;
  • an hour-long tour of the Arboretum wetlands, departing 2 p.m. from the visitors center;
  • craft activities, such as creating Mother’s Day cards using pressed flowers, as well as painting and planting flower pots.

Also at the Arboretum: Ongoing plant sales are on a warm-weather schedule until Oct. 10.


  • The Plant Donations Nursery, which sells plants donated to the Arboretum by area gardeners, is open for sales on Wednesdays and second Saturdays, April through October, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Pat Calvert Greenhouse, which sells plants propagated from the Arboretum collection, is open year-round from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
