CASE BONANZA: As usual, the UW did well in the regional competition of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). A list of the winners follows.
In the annual reports category, Sarah Nicholson and Anne Totoraitis picked up a bronze for “Invest in Knowledge,” while in the student informational publication category, Debbie O’Donnell, Tiffany Wiley, Val Paul Taylor and Heather Prenevost won a silver for “Where to Eat on Campus.” Penni-ann Bricker won a bronze for rape drug posters and brochures, also in the informational category. Robyn Ricks, David G. Gordon, Nancy E. Blanton, Terry Y. Nosho and Louie Echols brought home the gold in the special events publication category for Heaven on the Half Shell. Nancy Joseph won a bronze in the newsletters category for A&S Perspectives.
In the overall publication design category, UW prizes were numerous. Lauren S. Fortune, Cheryl Nations, Joanne De Pue, Susan Stoddard, Alice Kaderlan Halsey, Scott Driscoll, Katherine Morris, Sandy Marvinney, Antoinette Wills, Kathy Sauber, Jeff Zaruba, Zaruba Photography, Harriet Burger, H.B. Photography and Jo-Ann Sire won a gold for “Report to Contributors.” John Linse and Jo-Ann Sire also won gold for the UW Summer Arts Festival brochure series.
Dean Driskell won silver for the EMBA brochure, while Jo-Ann Sire and John Linse also won silver for “Invest in Knowledge.” Another silver was picked up by Jo-Ann Sire for the Klinefelter’s syndrome brochure.
Bronze awards were won by John Linse and Jo-Ann Sire for “Prostate Cancer Research Institute,” “UW Directions: The Arts” and the rape drug poster series. Lauren S. Fortune, Cheryl Nations, Sarah Conradt, Sarah Conradt Design, Antoinette Wills, Kathryn Hunt, Kathy Sauber and Mary Levin also won bronze for “University of Washington Diversity Scholars Brochure,” as did Ken Shafer for Columns magazine.
In the features and articles category, Tom Griffin won a silver for “Down for the Count” in Columns magazine, while Jon Marmor won bronzes for two Columns articles, “Magic Realist” and “Sky King.” Nancy Joseph won bronze for “Understanding a Controversial Rite of Passage” in A&S Perspectives.
