Dr. Sharon Dobie, associate professor of family medicine, has received the Outstanding Researcher Award from the American Lung Association of Washington. She was honored for her work leading a coalition-based approach to reducing impacts of childhood asthma in King County. She has spent many hours as a volunteer researching the prooblem, developed best-practice guidelines, and secured a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to work on the problems, the Lung Association noted.
The third annual Northwest Microarray Conference, organized by Dr. Roger Bumgarner, director of the UW Center for Expression Arrays and research assistant professor of microbiology, will be held Aug. 14 to 16 at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle. Dr. David Morris, UW professor of biochemistry, is a keynote speaker, along with Dr. Timothy Galitski of the Institute of Systems Biology and an affiliate faculty member in the UW Department of Zoology, and Dr. John Quackenbush of the Institute of Genomic Research in Rockville, Md.
