Chronicle of Higher Education recognizes UW as a great place to work

The University of Washington has been recognized as a “Great College to Work For” by the Chronicle of Higher Education in its 2014 survey. The UW received recognition for overall job satisfaction and tenure clarity and process. “UW faculty and staff incite fierce passions, creative energy and a collaborative spirit across our classrooms and communities,” said UW President Michael K. Young. “We actively support our employees’ professional and personal growth because their work serves the next generation of thinkers, doers and leaders.” Now in its seventh year, the Chronicle’s 2014 Great Colleges to Work For program recognizes small groups of colleges (based on enrollment size) for specific best practices and policies.

UW|360 is new Sunday at 9pm

Tune in Sunday at 9p.m. to UWTV|Channel 27 for a new UW360. This Emmy® Award-winning magazine-style profiles the fascinating people, programs and community connections that define the University of Washington. The show looks at a wide range of UW topics, from solar energy, to heart tissue regeneration, to neighborhood farmer’s markets – and much more. This month, get a behind-the-scenes look at the UW Surplus Store, hit the beach with the Husky sand volleyball team, learn about the late Gordon Hirabayashi, UW alumnus and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and much more.

Sean D. Sullivan named dean of UW School of Pharmacy

University of Washington President Michael K. Young and Provost Ana Mari Cauce announced Monday the selection of Sean D. Sullivan as the new dean of the UW School of Pharmacy, effective Sept. 15. The appointment is subject to approval by the UW Board of Regents.

UWTV nominated for two EMMY awards

UWTVlogo_Basic_PurpleAndYellowThe University of Washington’s award-winning public television station, UWTV, received nominations for two EMMY® awards by the Northwest Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television. UWTV’s multiple EMMY®award nominations are represented by a program and individual story segment from UWTV’s monthly news-magazine program, UW360.

The March 2013 episode of UW 360 is nominated in the Public/Current/Community Affairs “Special” category. The episode features a story that explores the Burke Museum Artifact ID Day, looks inside the new Husky Stadium, visits a glass making class at UW Tacoma, profiles the UW Drama’s Undergraduate Theater Society, and presents a story of Cold War espionage from UW Alumnus and retired CIA operative, Vaughn Sherman ‘51.

Another segment from the March UW 360 is nominated in the Historical/Culture category. This UW360 short-story delves into the life of former CIA operative and UW graduate, Vaughn Sherman ’51, as he recounts experiences from his CIA service during the Cold War.

With an abundance of UW stories to tell, each episode gives you a chance to discover a new facet of the university. UW360 can be seen on Sundays at 9 p.m. on UWTV and Saturdays at 4:30 on KOMO 4 TV.
