Washington Sea Grant receives $1.1 million in federal funding
The Washington Sea Grant, based at the University of Washington’s College of the Environment, will receive $1.1 million in federal grants for aquaculture research. Across the country, 18 Sea Grant programs received aquaculture grants from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Read more from UW News.
UW among top 10 in US News Best Global Universities ranking
The University of Washington climbed to the No. 10 spot on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities rankings, tied with Johns Hopkins University and Yale University. The UW is now second among American public institutions — an improvement from last year’s No. 3 slot. Read more from UW Today.

Gov. Inslee appoints Blaine Tamaki to the Board of Regents
Gov. Inslee announced the appointment of Blaine Tamaki to the University of Washington Board of Regents last week. Tamaki graduated from the UW in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and is also an alumni of the UW Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor. His daughter recently graduated from the UW and his son is currently enrolled. Tamaki is a longtime resident of Yakima and has practiced as a trial lawyer for 35 years. Read more here.
