Documents Relating to Initiative 200 (I-200)
Voters in Washington state passed Initiative 200 (I-200) in 1998, prohibiting government entities such as the University of Washington from granting “preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.” Many of the policies that were drafted at the University of Washington following I-200 remain active, working policies for the UW today.
