Student vaccination requirement reminder (Message to instructors and instructional support staff)

This message was sent to instructors, instructional support staff and teaching assistants across the University of Washington.

Dear Colleagues:

We are writing with a few updates involving the student vaccine documentation process. As you may know, the governor has required students to provide proof of vaccination – or request a medical or religious exemption – by Oct. 29. To make students aware of this requirement we have communicated with them in several ways:

  • All UW students received a message on Sept. 29, reminding them of the Oct. 29 deadline and informing them they will not be able to register for winter quarter if they have not uploaded their vaccination documentation.
  • A follow-up message was sent Oct. 15 to those students who had not yet uploaded their documentation. Another reminder was sent to the same group Oct. 21 and again Oct. 28.
  • In addition, for the past two weeks a notice has been posted on MyUW and Canvas for all students. Beginning this week, those students who have not yet uploaded documentation will receive messages through their MyUW accounts.
  • Vaccination documentation information was included in a Student Life newsletter sent to all UW students on the Seattle campus Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Students not in compliance with the vaccination requirement will have holds placed on their winter quarter registration. If you would like to remind your students to submit proof of vaccination, please do so. If you encounter students with questions about registration holds, please refer them to their MyUW account where they can find details regarding the hold and the steps they need to take in order to remove the hold.

For information on accommodating students who are ill or quarantining, masking policies or other COVID-related topics, please refer to the email sent to all instructors, teaching assistants and instructional support staff Sept. 27 with resources and suggestions for autumn quarter.

As always, thank you for all that you are doing to advance student success.
