Welcome Doug Wallack to UW International Advancement!

We’re excited to announce that Doug Wallack is the new Assistant Director for International Advancement at the UW. Doug is already taking the lead on alumni engagement efforts and supporting our international chapters. We’re sure some of you have already have the pleasure of meeting him. Before joining the UW he worked as a grant writer, communications consultant and for the Office of Global Initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania. You can reach Doug at wallack@uw.edu.


New role at IMF for top economist

Portrait of Gita GopinathGita Gopinath, ’96, began a new role with the International Monetary Fund this year. Already the IMF’s Chief Economist, she was promoted to First Deputy Managing Director, the organizations number-two position responsible for a wide range of policy.

Alum receives $1 million National Science Foundation award

A photo of Alexa Bednarz, founder of Eco-Shelter Inc.UW communications alum, Alexa Bednarz, ’12, began to learn about the housing and roofing issues faced by many low-income Indian families while living in New Delhi. After seven years working for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, she founded her own social enterprise, Eco-Shelter Inc. Their pilot product, the Eco-Roof Panel, is made from resin-coated bamboo mats that are hot pressed to form a durable roofing panel. Eco-Shelter was recently awarded the highly competitive National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Technology Transfer Phase II award to conduct research and development. Read the full story.


The world comes together for Husky Giving Day

During this year’s Husky Giving Day in April, more than 5,000 donors came together to support dozens of causes across the University, raising $2.3 million dollars. Gifts came in from 27 different countries helping to unlock $25,000 in matching funds through the Turn the World Purple challenge. Thank you for helping us have one of the best Husky Giving Days on record. See all the results. 


Indonesia Huskies president visits Seattle

The future is bright and exciting for the Indonesia Huskies!


Shanghai Huskies join peer university’s for night out
