Jeff’s Corner: Notes from the Geographic Trustee

Jeff Adams HeadshotsBefore we dive into some of the outside-of-Washington happenings, a little about me. My name is Jeff Adams, and I serve as the Geographic Trustee for the UWAA Board. My role is to serve as a representative, liaison, conduit, soundboard, you name it – primarily between the Board and our UW alumni family who live outside of the State of Washington.

I work with our great volunteers, meet members at events throughout the country and work closely with our team in Seattle to make sure we all enjoy the alumni experience. A Chicago native, I am a 2004 graduate of the Foster School MBA program, I live with my family in the San Francisco Bay Area and I am a fanatical supporter of all things University of Washington!

We’ve had a really busy autumn 2017 for our UWAA family! On an international scale, UWAA hosted student send-offs and alumni gatherings in Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo. In the United States, we continued to host several popular events and roll out new ones on a wider scale. We hosted a Student Career Trek in Los Angeles, where alumni representing a wide array of L.A. businesses were able to connect with students, allowing them to explore career paths, experience work environments and begin to build their personal networks. We hosted UWAA Night at the Nike Company Store in Beaverton, Oregon. The New York Chapter enjoyed its annual Dawgs on Wall Street event. Annie Young-Scrivner, ’91, Godiva CEO, served as this year’s signature speaker. In San Francisco, we hosted an alumni chapter social, where members were able to enjoy good food, good drink and good company.

For many of us, autumn also means Husky football! Our Huskies have enjoyed another successful season, and UWAA was there to enjoy with our alumni and friends. Football viewing parties were hosted across the country during the season. Working with our corporate partner, Alaska Airlines, we hosted Washington Warm Ups for road games in Boulder, Colorado and Palo Alto, California. Finally, I had the pleasure of hosting an Out-of-State Tailgate on Rainier Vista for a number of our great alumni who happened to be in Seattle for the game vs. California.

As we wrap up 2017, we can all celebrate the accomplishments of so many who call the University of Washington home. It has truly been a great year and we have so many great things to look forward to in 2018. Until next time, accept my warmest season’s greetings, and may all of you enjoy a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018!
