Purple and gold may seem unique in Oregon, but alumnus Joe Boyle wears them proudly. This Portland native, vice president of global apparel merchandising and licensing for Columbia Sportswear, attributes his UW experience as a key part of his success.

“The University of Washington is truly a world-class university. The combination of a unique campus, highly diverse student body, esteemed faculty and an engaged alumni base provide the opportunity for a highly distinct university education.” Joe will also tell you, “The UW offers a number of highly varied areas of academic study, which provide a foundation for success. It’s a testament to the UW that regardless of what you study, you’ll find yourself in a position to succeed—no matter what you major in.”

Joe understands the value of a strong alumni connection, whether it’s keeping in touch with Huskies (including his Phi Delta Theta fraternity brothers) across the U.S. and around the world, or reflecting on the value that engaged alumni return to the University itself. “The University of Washington is a unique institution, it’s not surprising that it has produced alumni who not only contribute to their local community but make lasting differences in the world.”
