Undergraduate Academic Affairs

Ran Hennes

Ran Hennes, former associate director of the University Honors Program, passed away Monday, September 13. A memorial service will be held at the Center for Urban Horticulture on Sunday, October 3, at 1 p.m.

Below is a message from the UW Honors Program about the passing of former associate director, Ran Hennes.

Dear Honors Community,

I write to you today with sad news. We have had a great loss in Honors. Ran Hennes, our dear colleague and former associate director, passed away Monday evening, September 13. Ran had been dealing with lymphoma for several years. He was still teaching part-time and enjoying his retirement. During the last six months he had some setbacks and toward the end he choose to go on his own terms.

For all of you who knew and loved Ran, please know that his entire family was gathered around him and he died peacefully at Virginia Mason.

It won’t be the same without Ran. He was a kind and generous man, and he gave himself fully to the University and to every student, colleague, and friend he came in contact with. He was, and always will be, truly beloved by those who knew him.

Here is a link to Ran’s obituary in the Seattle Times and below is information for a memorial service. We know the impact that Ran had on many people throughout the University and that many of you will want to help honor him.

With warm regards,

Julie, Brook, Aley, Laura, Jim, Wendy, and Ryan
The Honors Program Staff
