The University of Washington Board of Regents governs and stewards the University in succession to past citizens, and for the benefit of present and future citizens of the State of Washington, as provided by statute. The Board selects, supervises, and evaluates the University President. With exceptions, the Board delegates day-to-day administration of the University to the President, in consultation with the facultyin accordance with statute.

The Board of Regents consists of eleven members, one of whom is a student and one of whom is a member of the faculty. Regents are appointed by the Governor to serve six-year terms, with the exception of the Student Regent, who serves a one-year term, and the Faculty Regent, who serves a three-year term.
