New ‘mediArcade’ in Allen Library supports multimedia work, play

UW News

poster for University of Washington Libraries new mediArcade, in Allen Library.UW Libraries has opened up a new multimedia space on the third floor of Allen library for the use of students, faculty and staff. It’s called the mediArcade, and is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to those with a Husky card.

With iMacs, large televisions and DVDs, video game consoles, several media editing programs and even VHS playback, UW community members can use the room to watch videos and listen to music, or to create and edit their own sounds and videos. The area can also be used to digitize vintage media to preserve it.

The ground rules say that UW students get priority on using this multimedia room, and that academic projects take precedence over other work. Remember to save your work, as the mediArcade computer stations delete all new files with every logout. The center was funded in part by Student Technology Fee.

For more information about the space and its use, contact UW Libraries Media Center and mediArcade staff at 206-221-1063 or medialib@uw.edu.
