The votes are in, the judges have spoken and winners have been chosen in the 2011 UW Pocketmedia Film Festival.
First Prize, and a Kodak Xi8 Camera goes to Money 4 Drugz!Filmmaker Greg Crowther, Director Ryan Choi. The film was shot on a Sony DSCW 120. It’s a Point and Shoot still and video camera.
Second Prize, and an iPod Touch goes to Salmon Stateby Carlos Javier Sanchez The movie was shot on a Flip HD camera and got praise from the judges for the creative use of the common book and the message.
Third Prize, and FinalCut Studio Software goes to Telling our Story – the Neah Bay project –by Ellie Canter. Also shot on a Flip Camera.
People’s Choice Award, and a UW Book Store gift baske goes to My UW Community, filmmaker Sun “Solar” Kim – shot on an iPod.
Honorable mention for effort and raising the visibility of the festival, MLK Voices of Students, by James Gannon. It actually gathered the most support in the People’s Choice voting, but it didn’t contain the Common Book as outlined in the rules. Gannon and his crew won a copy of the Common Book and some chocolates.
Entries in the film festival had to be two minutes or less and feature the Common Book (a poetry collection called You Are Never Where You Are) in some way. This year’s theme was “Voices in your Community.”
