UW tops national primary care medical school rankings for 16th straight year
The UW again has been ranked first among primary care medical schools in the country, according to annual rankings of graduate and professional programs provided by U.S.News & World Report.
The School of Medicine was tied for sixth in research.
Among programs newly ranked in 2009, academic specialties in the medical school that were ranked tenth or higher include: Family medicine (first for the 18th year in a row), rural medicine (first for the 18th year in a row), AIDS (fourth), women’s health (fourth), geriatrics (sixth), pediatrics (sixth) and internal medicine (eighth).
The UW College of Engineering and School of Medicine’s biomedical/bioengineering specialty was ranked fifth.
The Asian history program was ranked tenth. The sex and gender specialty in sociology was ranked fifth, and the sociology of population specialty was ranked eighth.
Three programs in the College of Education were ranked in the top ten: curriculum and instruction (ninth), special education (ninth) and elementary education (tenth).
The UW has previously been ranked the 16th best university in the world by the Institute of Higher Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and 22nd among the top 100 global universities by Newsweek magazine.
