Finalists for UW police chief to visit campus
Three finalists for the position of chief of the UW Police Department will be visiting campus this month.
John Vinson, currently undersheriff with the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department in Mount Pleasant, Mich., will visit Oct. 6 and 7. A campus forum will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in 204N HUB.
Vinson has been with the department since 2005. Before that he served the Central Michigan University Police Department, also in Mount Pleasant. He holds a doctorate in public administration from Western Michigan University.
Andrew Staubitz, commander of the Arizona State Capitol Police, will visit Oct. 8 and 9, with a campus forum from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in 204N HUB.
Staubitz has been in his current post since 2000, serving as interim chief of police from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that he spent 21 years with the Tempe, Ariz., police department. He holds a master’s in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University.
Brad Thompson, chief of police of the city of Sammamish since 2006, will visit Oct. 16 and 17. A campus forum will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in 204N HUB.
In addition to his role as the chief in Sammamish, Thompson has served the King County Sheriff’s Office in a variety of capacities since 1978. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law and justice from Central Washington University.
While on campus, the finalists will meet with the search advisory committee, various university officials, the office of Minority Affairs Student Advisory Board, members of the UW Police Department and other members of the UW community.
